About the Role
We are seeking a part-time Senior Associate, Research & Communications to join our small but growing team. This role is designed for a versatile, competent, and self-directed professional who thrives in dynamic environments and is eager to help build something meaningful. The Senior Associate will report directly to the founder and principal and serve as her key thought partner in strengthening our communications, advancing our research capacity, and supporting overall program execution. This is a remote, 20-hour/week position with potential to grow in hours and responsibility over time, based on performance and business development contributions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
This role will drive strategic communications at Cohesion Strategy. The Senior Associate, Research & Communications will:
Develop and implement a communications strategy that grows our audience and increases engagement across platforms.
Manage editorial calendar for blogs, newsletters, and webinars.
Draft, edit, and publish content for CohesionStrategy.com, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, BlueSky, and other platforms.
Design messaging for thought leadership, partnership outreach, and service promotion.
Maintain lists of blog/webinar topics and potential collaborators.
Place Cohesion Strategy staff on podcasts, conference panels, or speaking opportunities.
Coordinate with podcast and design contractors as needed.
Research & Project Execution
This role will also support clients. Our work is varied, and no two projects are the same. We expect this role to support a range of project types, including research, strategic planning, program implementation, facilitation, and evaluation. The Senior Associate, Research & Communications may:
Project manage some projects or portions of projects.
Support a range of research projects, by producing original literature reviews, and performing qualitative data preparation and early-stage analysis.
Prepare interview transcripts and survey data for analysis by reviewing, editing, and uploading to platforms like Dedoose.
Format and code qualitative and quantitative data in Excel, using formulas, pivot tables, and other tools.
Draft initial research memos or summaries based on findings.
Provide high-quality copy and style editing across deliverables (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
*Note: This role will include some research assistant-level tasks—such as data entry, formatting, and transcription preparation—particularly in the early stages. These tasks are necessary to support current projects and will shift over time as the organization grows and additional team capacity becomes available.
Organizational Growth & Operations
Support the founder in identifying new business opportunities and creating proposals.
Contribute ideas for expanding offerings or building partnerships.
Help build the internal systems needed to support a growing consultancy.
Take on additional responsibilities as the organization evolves.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's plus 3+ years relevant experience OR 6+ years relevant experience in strategic communications, nonprofit consulting, research, or evaluation.
Prior experience in philanthropy, civic engagement, or pro-democracy/pro-pluralistic work.
Demonstrated ability to write compelling, professional content across platforms.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Strong alignment with Cohesion Strategy’s mission and values, including a commitment to pluralism and collaboration.
Preferred
Familiarity with qualitative data analysis tools (e.g., Dedoose, NVivo, or Excel-based coding).
Exposure to both strategic and hands-on roles in small teams.
Capacity to think creatively, manage ambiguity, and “figure stuff out” with minimal direction.
Additional Information
Title: Senior Associate, Research & Communications.
Type: Part-time (20 hrs/week), remote.
Compensation: Hourly rate to be determined based on experience and market research (expected range: $26–$32/hr).
Start Date: Early August 2025.
Growth Potential: Opportunity to increase hours and advance responsibilities as the organization grows.
